The Deal: Lakers get Russell Westbrook and two future second’s
Wizards get Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell and 2021 22nd overall
The Lakers wanted a third core piece and they got it, but was it the right one? The Lakers needed someone who can shoot threes and provide efficient offense, and Westbrook can’t do either of those things. Last season Westbrook shot 43.9% from the field overall and 31.5% from three. In his career, he shoots 43.7% overall and 30.5% from three. Westbrook has averaged 18.8 shots per game in his career, but the Lakers who need more offense and again especially from three. They can’t have him shooting that much and that inefficiently.
For the Wizards this was a very nice deal as they got three solid players l, an extra draft pick and got rid of Westbrook’s salary. All three of Kuzma, Caldwell-Pope, and Montrezl Harrell averaged at least 9.7 points per game and Harrell also brings strong defense as he had a 106 defensive rating last season.
Trade grades: Lakers C, Wizards B
