LOKI Episode 1: Glorious Purpose
Tom Hiddleston returns as everyone’s favorite god of mischief, who is burdened with glorious purpose Loki. It has been three years since Loki got his neck snapped like a chicken by Thanos in the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, you probably thought you’ve seen the last of the mischievous god. And you probably cried, right? It is okay you can admit it, I cried too. But by the power of Odin himself or really the Avengers going all timey wimey like Doctor Who. 2012 Loki gets his hands back on the Tesseract, and escaping, he’s back.
According to the head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige said that Loki will impact the MCU the most. Like more than WandaVision? Kevin, what do you have planned for us? Anyway, Yes, Loki will impact the MCU even more than WandaVision or The Falcon (Captain America) and The Winter Soldier. Right away the first episode basically confirms that.
Reminder for casual MCU fans that the Loki in the new Loki series is not the Loki we see die in Infinity War, well he is but isn’t, this is 2012 Avengers Loki.
After Loki escapes with the Tesseract, he teleports to the desert only to be arrested by the TVA or Time Variant Authority, because 2012 Loki has gone off his set path that was pre-determined by the Timekeepers. Insert Owen Wilson as Agent Mobius, who didn’t even say “wow” once, who wants to use Loki to help hunt down a dangerous Variant. Loki is shown his “greatest hits” of his life, including that Loki is the famous D.B. Cooper. Loki sees his whole life flash before his eyes, literally. In 51 minutes, we get the most character development we have ever seen in him. Even including Loki having a personal breakthrough. Shit it took Wanda 9 episodes of taking a town hostage and forcing everyone to live out her sitcom fantasies just so she can get her dead robot boyfriend back, for her to have a breakthrough, but she’s hot so we’re just going to look past that. Anyways, Loki the series seems to be setting up for Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness just like WandaVision but will give us a deeper look into this Multiverse.
As the credits rolled, I left with these questions. Will Loki get another redemption story? Can the TVA be trusted? Can Loki be trusted? I mean he did stab Coulson in the back and a lot of other people both literally and figuratively…. yeah, I trust him. Will Owen Wilson ever say “wow”? Is Mephisto behind it all…? That last one probably not but I had to add it.
If you love Marvel like I do…then you will love Loki. If you have never seen a Marvel movie, then what are you doing with your life? You got 12 years of movies and now shows to catch up on.
I will leave this helpful Loki movie arc guide for you just in case you need a refresher 😉
