Takeaways From Chiefs vs Browns
The Browns O-Line and Run Game Are Still Strong
Last season the Browns offensive line graded first in both pass blocking and run blocking by PFF. Baker Mayfield had great pockets to throw from and he delivered on the day going 21 of 28 passing for 321 yards and 11.5 yards per attempt. On the ground, the Browns averaged 5.9 yards per carry as a team and scored 4 rushing touchdowns. Both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt averaged 5.5 yards per carry and throughout the game had the ability to run and pass.
The Chiefs Are Still Scary Good
The Chiefs didn’t get much from their run game but that’s okay when you have Patrick Mahomes. Down 15-3 in the second quarter, the Chiefs didn’t flinch as they roared back behind Mahomes 337 passing yards and 3 touchdown tosses. Mahomes had a 88 QBR for the game and once again the Chiefs were able to come from behind against a strong opponent and get the win in the end.
Browns Lose The Game With Two Key Mistakes
The Browns had this game if it wasn’t for two costly mistakes that absolutely lost this game. In the third quarter, the Browns were moving the ball downfield and had just gotten into KC territory when Nick Chubb fumbled the ball away to the Chiefs. The Chiefs would score a field goal off that turnover instead of the Browns adding to their lead which had just dwindled to 2 fucking points. The biggest mistake was for sure when Jamie Gillan, the Browns punter, botched the snap and turned it over on downs to the Chiefs at the Cleveland 15. The Chiefs would score to take the lead and bring the end of the game.
