When troubled LAPD officer Joe (Jake Gyllenhaal) is working the night shift at a 911 center, he receives a call from a woman as she is being kidnapped. Joe must race against time to track her down.
A remake of 2018s Danish film of the same name. The Guilty takes an interesting approach to a crime thriller. The full 90 minutes taking place within the 911 center during phone calls. Although you are only able to see Jake Gyllenhaal’s point of view it somehow intensifies the events happening on the other line of the call. Everytime the phone would ring, I had to listen carefully as the plot unfolded. The film was very fast paced but it didn’t feel like it. Maybe because it felt like the danger of those 911 calls felt real as if they were happening right in the moment.
The Guilty delivered a flawed character who goes through a personal journey helping him come to terms with his own guilt. The film showed you don’t need a lot happening on screen to prove how high the stakes are.
The Guilty is now streaming on Netflix
