THE TOMORROW WAR: CHRIS PRATT HUMANITY’S LAST HOPE
The Tomorrow War was supposed to be a blockbuster film meant to be seen in theaters but the rona had other plans after being delayed the film found a home on Amazon Prime Video. Chris Pratt leads this alien invasion future war movie.
The Tomorrow War opens with a quick glimpse into future war only to bring you right out of it. It doesn’t take long for the initial plot to happen, with soldiers from the future time traveling to December 2022, add in some stale dialogue, the point is made. Aliens have caused a near human extinction with the remaining humans fighting to preserve what seems to be a hopeless future. And they need people from the past to help.
The film takes its time before getting into the action when finally Chris Pratt, playing a former Green Beret First Sergeant turned biology teacher, is drafted to fight in tomorrow’s war. J.K. Simmons plays the supporting role of Chris Pratt’s dad in one scene not showing up again until the final act of the film. With the films more light hearted moments were filled by Sam Richardson.
The Tomorrow War suffered from a plot that could’ve been executed better, and probably could’ve shed 20-30 minutes off its run time. The film’s third act suffers from a different tone that doesn’t flow with the rest of the film. It tries to make you care about some characters but fails at times. J.K. Simmon’s character seems more a fill in character for an unnecessary added plot. Instead they should’ve stayed focused on Chris Pratt and Yvonne Strahovski characters relationship for the majority of the movie instead.
The Tomorrow War is an action movie and I can say that it delivered the action. As the aliens creep around Chris Pratt and his crew of civilians turned soldiers before picking them off one by one, the action keeps pace as it lets you think they made it into the clear before taking that hope away.
The Tomorrow War is already reported to be getting a sequel. With the original cast set to return. Along with director Chris McKay and screenwriter Zach Dean. It will be interesting to see what a sequel will have in store, when The Tomorrow War seemed like a one off film, with a closed ending rather than an open one. But in the world of science fiction nothing is closed.
Overall The Tomorrow War is a fun action movie that could’ve been executed better. But it is still enjoyable to watch. Chris Pratt gave a good performance along with the supporting cast.
