THE WALKING DEAD OUT OF THE ASHES Recap
DANGER, DANGER SPOILER WARNING AHEAD!
This week on The Walking Dead…
We start the episode with Aaron walking through the forest at night with his daughter Gracie at his side. They suddenly come across threats from previous seasons. As these threats come closer Gracie is seemingly gone. Aaron is then stabbed multiple times. Cut to Aaron waking up in his bed; it was a dream all along. As the citizens of Alexandria sleep Jerry heads to the bathroom where he notices a walker roaming around inside the walls, there’s been a breach. He alerts everyone. Everyone bands together to try to put the fallen wall back up all while killing any invading walkers.
Aaron, Carol, Jerry and Lydia decide to head to what remains of Hilltop to try to find anything they can use to fortify the walls at Alexandria. There they see Hilltop residents now walkers, where they have no choice but to kill them. After they clear those walkers they begin to look through what remains but come across another small group of walkers but these walkers are moving almost like they are being herded. Aaron goes over killing the walkers and finding a Whisperer. Aaron is about to kill the Whisperer but Lydia recognizing him saves him from getting killed. Aaron tries to get answers out of the Whisperer as he tries to plead to Lydia. Not answering Aaron’s questions they decide to put him in a cell. That’s where they find more Whisperers hiding. Jerry gets triggered when he finds one of his wife’s head wraps the scared Whisperers flea.
Aaron and Jerry hang the Whisperer up by a rope while using a walker to scare him into answers. The Whisperer still not giving Aaron what he wants, Aaron lets the walker bite his hand. Threatening to let him turn if he doesn’t answer his questions. Lydia decides to leave as she can’t watch it anymore. Carol shoots an arrow into the walker’s head stopping Aaron from doing something he’ll regret later. Carol reminds Aaron about the dark path she went on when Alpha killed Henry and she doesn’t want Aaron to go down the same path.
As they are about to leave Hilltop with the Whisperers left alive, even cutting the one’s hand off so he doesn’t turn. The Whisperer mentions he saw one of their people come out of the cave that Alpha kept the horde in. He mentions a woman. Hinting at Connie still being alive.
We return to The Commonwealth where we are shown an introduction video about the community, showing how much like the old days it is. Ezekiel, Princess, Yumiko and Eugene are given letters with the roles they will have within the community. They decide to split up to see what this place is about and to find help. Yumiko goes to find her brother. Yumiko heads to a bakery where she finds her brother Tomi. Meanwhile Eugene and Stephanie get ice cream, finally spending time together in person. She figures out that Eugene wants to use the radio and agrees to help. Yumiko and Tomi catch up and she asks him how he wound up at The Commonwealth. While Eugene, Stephanie and Ezekiel head inside the train station, Princess distracts Mercer, red stormtrooper, by thanking him for her two dollar bill back that they took and also by complimenting his “beautiful” eye.
Eugene and Stephanie in the radio station make contact with Alexandria but are interrupted by Mercer who arrests them. As they all wait to be put on trial Stephanie comes in with the man from the introduction video where he is able to get the charges dropped, but not scott free.
Back at Alexandria Judith trains the other kids how to use swords, when she sees some older kids teasing a walker whose head is peaking through the wall. Judith tells them to stop but the kid bullies her to the point she pulls out her sword on the boy, but Gracie comes over to stop her.
Judith heads inside the house to find the wooden plank handprints she and Carl made are broken, she suspects the boy from earlier. Hershel, Gracie and RJ agree to help fix it. Judith crying on the porch about the handprints Rosita comes over to comfort her. Judith is scared she will forget Carl and Rick. Rosita and Judith go to fix the handprints when they get a radio call from Eugene but the connection is cut off.
We continue with Maggie and Negan making their way to the safe house. Negan reminds Maggie that they need to trust each other. Once they get to the safe house, Negan suggests that they bring what little supplies there are back to Alexandria thinking that the others still out there won’t show up. Negan then says they’ll give it sundown and if no one comes back then they leave. As they wait Negan starts packing the supplies as he plans to leave. Maggie stops him before Gabriel and Elijah make it to the safe house. Maggie tells them about the statues of the others, not knowing where Daryl is, they decide to continue to wait.
