TOP 10 SADDEST WALKING DEAD DEATHS (SEASONS 1-10)
With the final season of The Walking Dead approaching on August 22on AMC. I wanted to look back at some of the saddest deaths. I will be disqualifying Rick from the list as he is confirmed not dead. (Note: these are all my personal picks)
10. SHIVA, EZEKIEL’S TIGER (S8, E4: SOME GUY)
Okay I know it’s just a CGI tiger but as a pet owner there’s nothing worse than losing your furry best friend. We all felt the pain Eziekial felt as he helplessly watched Shiva get killed by walkers protecting him.
9. LORI GRIMES (S3, E4: THE KILLER WITHIN)
Although Lori wasn’t the most liked character, her death was still emotional. For one, she was dying from childbirth and two, having Carl shoot his own mother so she won’t turn into a walker isn’t the simplest thing for a young child to do.
8. NOAH (S5, E14: SPEND)
When Noah gets dragged away by walkers right after he told Glenn “Don’t let go,” he could only watch as Noah was ripped apart and eaten alive. You could feel the guilt and pain Glenn felt. Glenn and Noah could’ve had a beautiful friendship if he would’ve survived.
7. TARA, HENRY, ENID, OZZY, FRANKIE, TAMMY, ALEK, DJ, ADELINE and RODNEY (S9, E15: THE CALM BEFORE)
When Alpha and her Whisperers kidnapped 10 people chopping their heads off and putting them on spikes on a hill so Alpha could show she’s not one to mess with, all because her daughter Lydia chose to stay with Henry (far bottom right). For me it was Enid and Tara’s deaths that made my jaw drop the furest. While with Henry’s I was sad for Carol losing another child.
6. LIZZIE AND MIKA (S4, E14: THE GROVE)
A child dying is heartbreaking in general but this was something else. First Lizzie (right) thought the walkers were still people and killed her own sister Mika (left) to prove it to Carol, who was looking after the girls and even saw them as daughters. So Carol being the one to pull the trigger to end Lizzie’s life was torture for her and we the audience could feel that emotion.
5. ABRAHAM (S6,E16: LAST DAY ON EARTH)
The first of Negan’s victims. There was no time to process his death as it was unexpected and quick. Seeing everyone helplessly watch as Lucille bashed his head to nothing. Also having Rosita, his old lover, and Sasha, who Abraham left Rosita for, broke my heart for the both of them.
4. JESUS (S9, E8: EVOLUTION)
After a six year time jump this was the episode that introduced the Whisperers and killed of one of The Walking Dead’s three major gay characters. Jesus’s death was a shock to fans, because he has encountered and fought Whisperers in the comics including Beta. Plus the show hinted at Jesus and Aaron having a little something going on. We were robbed of a new power couple.
3. BETH GREENE (S5, E8: CODA)
Beth’s death was instant and I didn’t see it coming until that bullet went through her head. Daryle crying because of how close they became. But as Daryle walked out of the hospital and Maggie breaking down was the worst part.
2. CARL GRIMES (S8, E9: HONOR)
When Carl was revealed to have been bit it was a moment no parent, apocalypse or not, wants to experience the death of their child. I don’t think I cried more than when Rick and Michonne said their last goodbyes to Carl before he took the gun to shoot himself, so his own father didn’t have too. Just hearing that gunshot was heartbreaking.
1. GLENN (S7, E1: THE DAY WILL COME WHEN YOU WON’T DIE)
A death we all knew was coming with the introduction of Negan. When Glenn gets the shit beat out of him with Lucille and his eyes bulge out as he mutters his last words “Maggie, I’ll find you,” before Negan turns his brains into a puddle on the pavement as the rest of the gang and a pregnant Maggie helplessly watch. Glenn’s death is a reminder that no character, not even a fan favorite is safe.
