Miami Dolphins money line (+140) at the New England Patriots Hit: Dolphins win 17-16
The Pats are at home but they’re starting a rookie QB against Football Outsider’s 11th ranked defense by DVOA that should be even better this year. Coach Brian Flores seems to know what he’s doing and can win with what he’s given. The Dolphins added Jaylen Waddle through the draft and Will Fuller to help take the top off the defense. Expect Tua to connect once or twice on deep shots for touchdowns especially with Stephon Gilmore out.
Los Angeles Chargers money line (-105) at the Washington Football Team Hit: Chargers win 20-16
The Chargers have a new coaching staff and with it a lot of hope. Young rising start QB Justin Herbert will finally have an O line in front of him as they bring in Corey Linsley and Rashawn Slater. He’ll also be dueling journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzmagic may have a hot game to start the year but this Chargers team is good on both sides of the ball. Herbert will get the ball to Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler.
New York Jets money line (+165) at the Carolina Panthers Miss: Panthers win 19-14
I know it’s pre-season but Zach Wilson looked great and has a much better offense around him than what was in place a year ago. For the Panthers we don’t really know what to expect from Sam Darnold as he’s a restoration project. Neither team should be very good this year but the Jets offense actually looks more promising with Wilson, Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, and others while the Panthers feature Darnold, McCaffrey and DJ Moore. The Jets will take this game.
